Pure Mathematics C1 C2 David Rayner Paul Williams Pdf
Hey everyone
I'm looking to self-teach mathematics AS-level.
What text books would you reccommend (title and author would be really great
) for C1/C2 modules as well as the S1 module?
What I really need are text books with alot of explanation
Thanks guys
Exam board would be helpful?
If it's edexcel i would recommend the heinemann books.
For those modules, the Edexcel Heinemann Modular Maths books are really useful - they've got explanations and then practice questions. Also, get the CGP AS Mathematics guide - I basically revised off that and got As in those modules, despite not being particularly brilliant at Maths. Especially if you're self-teaching, you need lots of practice... so obviously once you've revised, make sure you print off papers too.
just use teh edexcel text books they give in schools .......doo all review and edexcel exam quesitons from each chapter and plenty of past papers then all shall be good
I agree with everybody else. Heinemann Modular Mathematics for Edexcel is the way to go
Thanks guys for the fast replies - seems like the heinemann books are the way to go!

These ones are pretty good. I used them for mine. They aren't too long and tedious, and explains everything well.
Cool thanks mate - especially for the link etc
I might combine that with the Heinemann - seems like a good idea.

No probs
Yeh, getting both and cross referencing everything you learn is a good idea.
the heinemann...someone's already given an amazon link
but i really would recommend them...they're great for self teaching...
C1 and C2 i self taught...i didn't listen in class, and ended up having to revise for them from scratch couple of weeks before th emodules
...and i'll always be disastrous at statistics so i won't get into that...but they are pretty good with their explaining cos they do it all with step by step examples , and they give u past exam questions and a lot of the time i find their questions in the books are harder than the regular exam questions....
i'd also recommend http://www.mathsnet.net for self teaching, as they also do questions with step by step answers
hope that helps....sorry for the waffle!
As everyone else has said, the Heinemann textbooks are ideal for self-teaching as they contain everything you need to know as well as plenty of exercises. However, a good supplement to that would be Graded Exercises in Pure Mathematics and Graded Exercises in Statistics - these two books contain in total 723 pages of exercise after exercise.
I've used both the Longman ones (for C1-C4) and the Heinemann ones (for M1-2, S1 and FP1), and I think that the Heinemann ones are better, but maybe that's just the difficulty of the modules I've used them for. They're both pretty good.
i did the same in Jan
Heinemann ones & www.mathsrevision.net
Pure Mathematics, C1 C2 from ELMWOOD PRESS
its both in one book with good explanations, examples and alot of exercises including past exam questions from ocr, edexcel, MEI and AQA.
Along with Heinemann its a great combination.
I recently started the C1 module with 1 lesson a week, since its early entry Im still takin my GCSEs.
I'm yet to encounter any problems and concepts that I wasnt able to understand from the books.

It's great!
The Pure Mathematics C1 C2 book is superior to the Heinemann series because of the in-depth explanations and multitude of questions. The authors are David Rayner, a renowned maths text book author and Paul Williams who is a maths teacher at Eton College. Although the latter information is of little significance I would recommend this book. It is also at a very nice price may I add.
